Arts and Craft Projects- How to Quill
What is Quilling?
Quilling ( rolled paper art ) is the art of rolling strips of paper using a quill wand, then shaping and gluing them together to form creative and decorative patterns or objects. Quilling developed during the Renaissance era when nuns from France and Italy would decorate books.
Quilling became popular among the ladies of leisure in Europe in the 18 century. Quilling was used to adorn, boxes, cards, frames and other decorative items. Lately there has been a resurgence in quilling. People are finding pleasure in bringing this art back. There are many craft projects you can add this art to, but it can also stand alone.

Quilling is a very easy and an inexpensive hobby, All you need is a quilling wand, glue, and strips of paper. I advise buying the strips of paper then trying to make your own. Packages of colored paper is very inexpensive and will produce high quality items. I buy my supplies online from Amazon.

Quilling Wand
How to Quill
The first step is to take a strip of paper. I usually cut the long strip of paper in half first. Then I take the strip and insert in the slit on the top of the quilling wand. Bring the end of the strip of paper to the base of the slit on the quilling wand. Slowly rotate the wand rolling the paper in a circle, use your other hand to aid the rolling of the paper with your fingers. (see pic 1).
Remove the rolled paper, by sliding it off the wand, and keep it tightly rolled in between your fingers (see pic 2)
Loosen your fingers to relax the rolled paper to a size you would like. (see pic 3)
Now you can shape the paper roll anyway you would like by using you fingers to manipulate the rolled paper in different directions. (see pic 4)
Once you are happy with the shape take some glue and seal the end of the paper strip. I recommend using a toothpick, to apply the glue. (see pic 5)
Be Creative
After you have made many of these rolled papers use them to make fun designs or objects by gluing them together to make each item.
Have fun and find creative ways to make great quilling projects. I will later add some of my DIY quilling projects.
